One of the most popular types of wine is Rosé. It is the perfect drink for any occasion, whether that be in the summer on the beach with friends or celebrating a special occasion. One of the main questions people ask is what Rosé wine is made of and its alcohol content. Our blog focuses on Rosé wine and everything you need to know. In this blog, we will explore Rosé wine in depth.

Rosé Wine: What Is It?

Rosé has become the trendsetting wine over the past few years, and its popularity shows no signs of waning. Unlike specific grape varieties like reds or whites, rosé is a category of wine distinguished by its pink hue, achieved through a shorter fermentation period with grape skins. This process allows rosé to retain beneficial elements like resveratrol from red grapes. While it has recently gained popularity in the United States, rosé has been a staple in France for centuries, especially in Provence, which produces more rosé than any other wine style. It is also widely enjoyed in Spain (rosado) and Italy (rosato).

Ways Rosé Wine Is Made

Rosé gets its pink color through skin contact during fermentation. When grapes are crushed, the clear juice absorbs color from the grape skins in a process called maceration. For rosé, this maceration lasts only a few hours to a day. Once the juice reaches the desired color, the skins are removed, and the juice is fermented. The varying shades of pink in rosé are due to different maceration methods. Contrary to popular belief, most rosé is not made by mixing red and white wines; this method is rare.

What Is Rosé Wine Alcohol Content

When people talk about the “body” of a wine, they’re referring to how it feels in your mouth, not just its taste. This sensation is typically determined by the wine’s alcohol content. Light-bodied wines, with alcohol levels under 12.5%, feel crisp and bright. Medium-bodied wines, like most rosés, have an alcohol content between 12.5% and 13.5% and are often described as smooth and refreshing. Full-bodied wines, with alcohol content above 13.5%, feel rich and complex. Understanding a wine’s body helps you appreciate its texture and overall drinking experience.
